A good English Breakfast tea needs to hit the spot when it comes to flavour.
It needs strength and punch to stand up to lots of breakfast dishes, liveliness to wake you up, and a satisfying depth and balance.
A decaf breakfast tea is no different. It’s really important that the process of removing the caffeine doesn’t also remove some of that flavour, so we’re very selective about the teas in our blend and the way we decaffeinate them.
We start with really good teas, hand picking the very best Kenyan teas from east of the Rift Valley – a region whose flavours are particularly well suited to decaffeination. We use leaf grades that are a little bigger in size than our English Breakfast blend, so the process doesn’t break them down too small to brew correctly. And we decaffeinate using natural carbon dioxide, which takes away the caffeine gently in a way that doesn’t compromise the tea leaves themselves.
The result is a classic English Breakfast tea with all of the flavour, but without the caffeine. Perfect in the morning, but perfect in the evening too.
