Our signature English Breakfast blend is made with tippy orthodox tea from some of the world's best tea gardens - rich and malty Assam, light and fresh Ceylon and smooth, mellow tea from East Africa. The whole tea leaves are dotted with the golden tips of young leaf buds - a mark of high quality and a sign of fine flavour.

English Breakfast Tea is the quintessential black tea blend. As with many blends, its origins aren't entirely clear - but it's thought to date back to the late 18th century and often features teas from both India and Africa.
There’s no standard recipe, but over the centuries, tea lovers have come to seek a certain flavour profile from this iconic blend: strength and maltiness to stand up to lots of breakfast dishes, liveliness to wake you up, and a satisfying depth and balance.
Loose leaf tea adds an extra sense of occasion to the breakfast table. Using “orthodox” tea leaves – a larger leaf than those typically used in tea bags – means a slightly lighter flavour which some consider more refined. They’re ideally brewed in a teapot, which gives them lots of room to move around and benefit from lots of surface contact with the water, and adds a certain something to the ritual of tea-making.
We use a blend of Assam, Ceylon and African teas from tea estates we work closely with. The Assam teas give a powerful, malty depth, while the Ceylon teas bring a mellow, delicate flavour. Meanwhile, the African teas – which include some fantastic teas from Kenya – give a vibrant and lively character.
Blended together to our unique recipe, it makes for a balanced cup that delivers consistently on strength, flavour, body and briskness. Typically enjoyed with milk, it’s a true all-rounder, great at breakfast and throughout the day, and delicious with marmalade on toast.
