To make this elegant Chinese tea, jasmine flowers are laid over orthodox green tea leaves in late spring, when the flowers start to open and gently infuse the tea leaves with their full fragrance. This centuries-old method dates back to the Song Dynasty, creating a delicate tea with a sweet floral flavour.

The combination of green tea and jasmine dates back over 1000 years. Jasmine flowers are scattered onto green tea leaves and given time to infuse them with their fragrance, creating a light and refreshing drink with an elegant aroma.
The flavour is hard to describe yet impossible to mistake – a gentle, floral accent which hints at the sweetness of blossom.
Such a special flavour deserves the perfect canvas, which is why a delicate green tea is the natural choice, since it allows jasmine to be the star of the show. It’s a delicate and subtle tea from the Hunan Province in south central China. The jasmine flowers (which come from Guangxi Province in southern China) are scattered onto the tea leaves there – and the process is repeated at least five times. That repetition leads to a better, richer jasmine flavour, and it’s one of the hallmarks of a higher quality jasmine green tea.
Loose leaf tea adds an extra sense of occasion. Using “orthodox” tea leaves – a larger leaf than those typically used in tea bags – means a slightly lighter flavour which some consider more refined. They’re ideally brewed in a teapot, which gives them lots of room to move around and benefit from lots of surface contact with the water, and adds a certain something to the ritual of tea-making.
