You might wonder how a Scottish Breakfast Tea differs to English Breakfast Tea. Well, they certainly share some traits. Like our English Breakfast Tea, this a rich, deep and rounded black tea blend that’s perfect in the morning and lovely with milk.
Where it differs is strength and maltiness. We amplify those flavours to really stand up to big, hearty breakfast dishes. Scotland’s food traditions are often thought of as more hearty than those of England, and some even theorise that this cultural difference has geological causes. The land masses of Scotland and England are thought to have joined over 400 million years ago after separating from two different historic continents, leading some to suggest that their differing geology may have influenced the different crops that humans would come to grow on each.
However this hearty food tradition came about, we’ve matched it by creating a blend that’s absolutely packed with high grade Assam tea, famous for its malty punch. A smaller supporting cast of Kenyan teas provides a little dose of liveliness and balance.
We work closely with our suppliers on tea taste scoring and quality grading to make sure it’s always superb. That’s true for all of our supply chains across the tea world – and for an Assam-heavy blend like this, it’s how we make sure our Assam is the best it can be. That’s why our Scottish Breakfast tea always delivers that punchy, full-bodied, wake-up call that fans of strong black tea the world over love it for.
